What is the primary function of the HPE Apollo 6000 Chassis Controller?

The SKU 859362-B21 is required to manage power and thermals in Apollo 6000 chassis. It handles distribution from up to six 2650W or 3400W supplies (15,900W-20,400W total, 14-19kW usable with capping) and integrates thermal logic for lower power and airflow during full node loads, supporting 12 dual rotor fans.

Is this controller compatible with HPE Apollo Platform Manager?

Yes, it connects to one APM per rack (SKU 859364-B21) via consolidated management cables, allowing chassis 2 and 3 controllers to link for full rack-level power control. APM provides granular insight, replacing controllers in top chassis positions with included network-to-serial port.

What form factor does the Apollo 6000 Chassis Controller use?

It is a chassis module form factor, designed for hot-plug installation in HPE Apollo 6000 datacenter chassis. This enables seamless integration with 5U or 12U setups holding up to 10-24 nodes, power shelves, and Innovation Zone I/O modules.

How does it support thermal management in dense deployments?

Incorporates thermal logic to reduce power consumption and airflow when nodes are fully utilized, paired with 12 hot-pluggable dual rotor fans and four front fans for switch cooling. This minimizes cooling concerns in scale-out HPC with up to 24 front-accessible nodes.

What power configurations does it manage?

Supports up to six 2650W PSUs for 15,900W or 3400W for 20,400W per chassis, with power capping for 14kW or 19kW usable power. Compatible with external power shelves offering single/3-phase AC input and N+1 redundancy for rack-scale efficiency.

Can it enable rack-scale management?

Yes, through chassis-to-chassis iLO serial connections and APM integration for single-console oversight of racks, chassis, servers, power, and cooling. Supports up to 10 I/O modules and shared infrastructure for optimized networking and cabling in standard racks.
