What is the maximum throughput of the Brocade VCS 7840?

The VCS 7840 delivers 640 Gbps full-duplex switching capacity with 476 Mpps forwarding rate. With 16 x 10GbE ports, it achieves wire-speed performance across all ports simultaneously without oversubscription or contention, supporting non-blocking fabric architecture for mission-critical applications.

How many VLANs can this switch support?

The VCS 7840 supports 4096 VLANs, enabling comprehensive network segmentation for multi-tenant environments, departmental isolation, and security zone separation. Combined with 802.1p QoS capabilities, this supports granular traffic prioritization across isolated network segments.

What are the power supply specifications and redundancy options?

The switch includes dual hot-swappable 250W AC power supplies configured for N+1 redundancy. Typical power consumption is 150W with maximum draw of 250W per PSU. Automatic failover ensures continuous operation if one PSU fails, eliminating power as a single point of failure.

What management interfaces are available for remote administration?

Management options include Web GUI, CLI, SNMP (v1/v2c/v3), REST API, and VCS Fabric OS. Out-of-band management via 1 x RJ-45 console port and 1 x USB port enables remote troubleshooting and configuration independent of data plane connectivity.

Is this switch suitable for stacking and fabric expansion?

Yes. The VCS 7840 includes 4 x 40GbE QSFP+ stacking ports enabling high-speed inter-switch links for fabric expansion. These ports support aggregated bandwidth for rapid data replication, backup operations, and multi-switch fabric topologies in distributed data center deployments.

What is the physical footprint and rack space requirement?

The VCS 7840 is a 1U rack-mountable switch measuring 436 x 539 x 44 mm (17.2 x 21.2 x 1.7 inches) and weighing 5.5 kg (12.1 lbs). This compact form factor maximizes data center space efficiency while delivering enterprise-class performance and reliability.

What protocols and standards does this switch support?

Supported protocols include 802.1Q VLAN, 802.1p QoS, 802.3ad LACP, BGP, OSPF, and VRRP. These standards enable interoperability with existing network infrastructure, dynamic routing, link aggregation, and redundancy mechanisms required in enterprise data center environments.
