ECC (Error-Correcting Code) memory detects and corrects single-bit errors on the fly, preventing silent data corruption and crashes — which is why servers require it. Desktop (non-ECC) memory won't post in most server platforms.
Both are buffered ECC types for servers. RDIMM buffers address/command lines and covers most builds; LRDIMM also buffers data lines to reach higher capacity per channel. Use whichever your server's rules specify.
Generally no — most desktop boards need unbuffered non-ECC (or UDIMM ECC) memory and won't accept RDIMM/LRDIMM. These are server/workstation modules. Ask via the bulk-quote link if you're unsure about your board.
