ECC (Error-Correcting Code) memory detects and corrects single-bit errors on the fly, preventing silent data corruption and crashes — which is why servers require it. Desktop (non-ECC) memory won't post in most server platforms.
Both are buffered ECC types for servers. RDIMM buffers address/command lines and covers most builds; LRDIMM also buffers data lines to reach higher capacity per channel. Use whichever your server's rules specify.
